HERE FOR THE BUFFET ©Rebecca Wave

His guide told Edgar Cayce,
    "Don't worry about the money,
Your family won't go hungry,
Just do the work you came for."
Edgar said "OK,
     I'm in all the way--
After all, I'm here for the buffet."

A cactus on the West Coast
    Blooms every 20 years
With a 20-foot erection
    Crowned in 30 creamy flowers.
Its head is in the sky,
    'Til it withers and dies
That's OK, it came for the buffet.

If you're lucky,
Someone meets you at the door,
Smiles and invites you to stay.
If there's any trouble,
    Stand firm, don't squirm:
It's not exclusive, don't be elusive.

I stand upon the precipice and
    Dive into the sea,
Close my eyes and feel the waves
    Swelling under me.
A phone rings, a thought clings,
    I'm back inside the day-anyway,
        I'm here for the buffet.
