SALLY ANNE Traditional

Did you ever see a muskrat, Sally Anne,
Picking' on a banjo, Sally Anne,
Draggin' his slick tail through the sand,
I'm gonna marry you, Sally Anne.

Chorus:
I'm gonna marry you, Sal Sal,
I'm gonna marry you, Sally Anne. (repeat)

Oh, I can see a muskrat, yes I can,
I can see a muskrat, yes I can,
I can see a muskrat, yes I can,
I'm that gal called Sally Anne.
(Chorus)

Well, I make my livin` in the sandy land,
Raise bill taters In the sandy land,
Big mushmelons in the sandy land,
Sandy bottom, sandy land
(Chorus)

Shake that little foot, Sally Anne,
Shake that pretty fool, Sally Anne,
Shake that little foot, Sally Anne,
You're a pretty good dancer, Sally Anne!
(Chorus)

THE TOMTE'S SONG ©Rebecca Wave

I hide in the hills and I
Help in your garden,
A body could miss me
If she blinked her eye.
A body could miss me,
if he weren't expecting
A tomte like me In his
Hayfield at night.

Chorus:
I'll help you if you're a
Kind hardworking neighbor,
But if you are spiteful,
I'll bring you bad luck.

A tomte I am and it's
Few that have seen me,
For people are blinded
By worry and greed.
I dance and make merry,
And feast with my kinfolk,
And work for the good folk
Who wish me god-speed.
(Chorus)

LAS MANANITAS Trad. Mexican

Estas son las mananitas,
Que cantaba el rey David,
A las muchachas bonitas,
Te las cantamos a ti.

Estas son las mananitas,
Que cantaba el rey David,
Por ser dia de tu santo,
Te las cantamos a ti.

Despierta, mi bien, despierta,
Mira que ya amanecio,
Y los pajaritos cantan,
La luna ya se metio.
(Repeat all)

HAPPY YODEL Bill Staines

I'm walkin' along,
Singin' a song, it's been
So long that I've been away
And I've hiked down the highways,
And thumbed down the byways,
And now I am home here to stay.

There's a boy (girl) on the prairie (valley),
And his (her) name is Jerry (Sally),
I hope he's still waiting for me,
For I've missed him so much,
And I've longed for his touch,
And it's him that I'm longing to see.

And I'll sing him this yodel,
This happy yodel,
And we will be married in spring,
And the bells will be ringin',
The birds will be singin',
And he will be wearin' my ring.
(Yodel)
(repeat verse 2 on)

MUSIC LOOM ©Rebecca Wave

I'm weaving a song on my music loom,
With threads made of color and sound,
I'm weaving the breath
Of a baby new-born,
And a white speckled feather I found.

Chorus:
My music loom is right here in my room,
In my pocket In the deep blue sea,
And I always have time
To find colors that rhyme
For my marvelous music loom.

My song has the look of good-bye
In the eye of my best friend,
When I moved away,
The sound of the sun when it's
Barely begun to rise
On a sweet summer day.
(Chorus)

I'm weaving a song on my music loom,
A song for a rainy day.
I wrap it around as the
Water runs down,
And I hear what the sky has to say.
(Chorus)

I'm weaving a song on my music loom,
And I'm sharing the music with you.

COYOTE ©Rebecca Wave

Who is that man with the
Eagle-feather headdress,
Who is that man
Running faster than a deer?
I see two yellow eyes
Gleaming In the jimson--
Is it Coyote's
Singing that I hear?

Chorus:
Ah-wee, Coyote,
Magical deceiver,
Changing all the time,
Ah-wee, Coyote,
Could you be the one
They call Ahmati-Nan?

Coyote keeps his
Family protected,
Coyote is a hunter and a thief.
Coyote loves a fight and a fiesta,
Coyote loves to be a mighty chief.
(Chorus x 2)

THE FOOL ©Rebecca Wave

With your spangled dress
And your merry dog,
Where do you go now,
Leaping along cliffs,
Eyes on the sun?
You are careless of the cities,
You who go from heel to toe,
With your hands wide open,
And your mouth agape.

Chorus:
Play a pipe and lead me
On a gay jig,
I will listen
When you call the tune.
I can hear you when I
Trust my own signs,
Weave a garland with your
Name in green runes.

Often I have found you,
Walkin' in my own shoes,
Singin' in the water,
As It runs along.
Whistling a wish--
Turn it three times true,
Leave it by the roadside
For the wind to find.
(Chorus)
(repeat verse 2 on)

BEAUTIFUL DAY ©Rebecca Wave

The sun is warm, the sky Is blue,
The mockingbird's singing
Just for you.
Open up, come out to play
With everything in this beautiful day.

Chorus:
Say, say, anyway you look with love,
It's a beautiful day.
Hey, hey, come on and say your
Heart's desire,
It's a beautiful day.

Clouds above, ground below,
Everything's moving as we go.
You are growing, so am I,
We laugh and shout and sing and cry.
(Chorus)

Yesterday you learned to tie your shoe,
Today will you learn, to fly?
Anything you want to know is
In your mind, just let it go.
(Chorus)

ROCKIN' ROBIN J. Thomas

He rocks in the treetops all day long,
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and
A-singin' his song.
All the little birdies on Jaybird Street,
Love to hear Robin go "tweet, tweet, tweet,"

Refrain:
Rockin' Robin--tweet, tweedly-dee,
Rockin' Robin--tweet, tweedly-dee,
Go, Rockin' Robin, 'cause we're
Really gonna rock tonight.

Every little swallow, every chickadee,
Every little birdie in the tall oak tree,
The wise old owl, the big black crow,
Flop their wings singin' "Go, Bird, Go!"

The pretty little raven at the bird bandstand
Taught him how to do the bop and it was grand.
They started goin' steady and bless my soul--
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole.

(Repeat first verse)
Tweedly-dee-dee, tweedly-deedly-dee,
Tweedly-dee-dee, tweedly-deedly-dee,
Tweedly-dee-dee, tweedly-deedly-dee,
Tweedly-dee, Tweedly-dee.

THE LITTLE SKUNK Anonymous

I stuck my head in a little skunk's hole,
And the little skunk said,
"Well, bless my soul--take it out!
Take it out! Take it out, remove it!"

I didn't remove it,
And the little skunk said,
"If you don't take it out,
You'll wish you had--take it out!
Take it out!"
Pee-yew--I removed it!

MUSIC CHILDREN ©Rebecca Wave

I feel the rhythm of the falling rain,
I start to shiver, got to
Call out your name.
I know you hear me 'though you're
Lost in the dark
Because we're music children,
We've got love in our hearts.
Refrain:
We're music children, we're
Music children, we're music children. (repeat)

Sometimes I worry you don't know how I feel,
And then you take my hand,
You make my worry be still.
I touch your fingers for the melody,
And then my heart starts singin',
And we get the harmony because we're
(refrain)

Chorus:
Music children,
We've got the rhyme and we've
Got the reason, we're
Music children,
We make the music and run.

Around the corner, up over the hill,
We've been movin' to the beat,
Because it never stands still.
I look at you and then I look inside,
We wrap the love up in the music
And we go for a ride, because we're
(refrain)

Conceived In love, we were born to play,
We've been takin' care of business,
We don't have to explain.
We count the blessings and they're
Comin' on strong, we take
In the information and we
Turn out the song, because we're
(refrain)
(Chorus)

THERE ONCE WAS A GIRL ©Rebecca Wave

There once was girl on a mountain so high,
By the banks of a clear blue stream,
And every day she would rise with the sun,
And every night she would dream

She would dream of a valley of flowers and trees,
By the shore of a great green sea,
And she'd sail on the wind to wherever it blew,
Then home to her own valley.

There once was a boy by the edge of the sea,
In a Valley so fair and green,
And every day he would rise with the sun,
And every night he would dream.

He would dream of a mountaintop close to the sun,
In the arms of the sparkling sky,
And he'd ride with the waves all the wide world around,
Then home to his mountain he'd fly.

Then the years rolled around for the girl and the boy,
And they grew to a woman and man,
And the days they had played,
And the nights they had dreamed,
Grew to be what they held in their hands.

So the woman went down to the shimmering sea,
And the man climbed the mountain so high,
And they sailed away on the wind and the waves,
And returned to their home by and by.

FISH OF THE SEA traditional

Come all ye young sailors and listen to me,
I'll sing you a song of the fish of the sea.

Chorus:
Then blow ye winds westerly, westerly blow,
We're bound to the south'ard,
So steady she blows.

First come the whale, he's the biggest of all,
He clumb up aloft and let every sail fall.
Next come the mackerel with his striped back,
He hauled aft the streets and bearded each tack.
(Chorus)

Then come the smelt, he's the smallest of all,
He jumped to the poop, "Lower topsails!" he bawled.
Then come the porpoise with his little blue snout,
He went to the wheel, callin' ''Ready about!"
(Chorus)

Next come the cod with his old chucklehead,
He swung by the forechains, a-heavin' the lead.
Then come the flounder, as flat as the ground,
"Dang your eyes, Chucklhead, mind how you sound!"
(Chorus)

The herring called out, "I'm the king of the sea!
If you want any wind, why I'll blow you a breeze!"
(Chorus)

MARISOL ©Rebecca Wave

Marisol, Marisol,
Golden flower of the sun, (repeat)
You were born with the dawn,
Heart in blossom ever young,
Marisol, Marisol,
Golden flower of the sun.

Marisol, Marisol,
Laughing child of the sea, (repeat)
Eyes aglow, overflow,
Out into the world you go,
Marisol, Marisol,
Laughing child of the sea.

Oh, oh, head to toe,
Swirling in a storm cloud, teardrops flow.
Oh, oh, seeds to sow,
Laughter Is the harvest
You can grow.

Marisol, Marisol,
Little lion of the day, (repeat)
Proud and shy, head held high,
Rock a loving lullabye,
Marisol, Marisol,
Little lion of the day.

NITZANIM NIRU BA ARETZ trad. Israeli

Nitzanim niru, niru b aretz,
Eht zamir higiya, eht ramir (repeat)

Kr ha-lo stav avar,
Stav halach, halaf lo.
Ha g'fanirn b'semadar
Notnirn, notnim reh-acham (repeat)

In the land the buds are all appearing,
Springtime Is appearing, spring Is here (repeat)
Wintertime now is gone,
Winter has departed.
Blossoms in the vineyards send
Sweet fragrance on the breeze.

PLASTIC FLOWERS ©Rebecca Wave

Oh, this century has brought us
Many strange and wondrous things,
Like machines that eat our garbage,
And computers that can sing,
And I thought romance had vanished,
Automated clean away,
'Til my sweetheart brought me candy,
And a PVC bouquet.

Chorus:
Plastic flowers in, the kitchen,
Plastic flowers in the hall,
Plastic flowers in the doctor's office,
And the shopping mall,
You will never be forgotten,
Though beneath the sod you lie,
If you have a plastic flower
By your gravestone when you die.

Oh, I love to smell the roses
In a garden alter rain,
And the spicy-sweet carnation
All my senses does Inflame,
The perfection of the lotus
Sages give their lives to gain,
Now you can get one made of plastic
For a buck, including change.
(Chorus)

When our earthly days are over,
And we're free from pain and hurt,
They will bury us or burn us,
And deposit us in dirt.
There the elements will mingle
With our fingers and our toes,
But not so the plastic flower,
For it will not decompose.
(Chorus)

Oh, your plastic flower will linger,
Though your grave it does grow green...
'Til a power mower comes
And cuts it all to smithereens.

SHENANDOAH traditional

Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter,
Away, you rollin' river,
For her I've crossed the rolling water,
Away, we're bound away,
Across the wide Missouri.

The trader loved this Indian maiden,
Away, you rollin' river,
With presents his canoe was laden,
Away, we're bound away,
Across the wide Missouri.

Oh Shenandoah, I'm bound to leave you,
Away, you rollin' river,
Oh Shenandoah, I'll not deceive you,
Away, I'm bound away,
Across the wide Missouri.

Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you,
Away, you rollin' river,
Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you,
Away, I'm bound away,
Across the wide Missouri.

PLANTING SONG ©Rebecca Wave

Every seed I plant in the earth,
Is something of immeasurable worth. (repeat)
Just like the lilies of the field,
I neither toil nor spin.
Walking through all the wondrous world,
I drink the wonder in.

Every living creature I see,
Is brother and sister to me. (repeat)
Grow and be fruitful, apple tree,
Your steward I will be.
They call me Johnny Appleseed,
The brother of the trees

Once I was born a soldier's son,
John Chapman was my true and given name.
I turned away from weapons of war
For sun and earth, the air and the rain.
Home is the forest or the grove
That blooms beneath the sky.
Tin hat and gunny sack I wear
To keep my body dry.
